10 low maintenance garden ideas
Your garden is an extension of your home so it needs to be something you can really enjoy!
Your garden is an extension of your home and as such, needs to be something you can really enjoy! Not everybody enjoys pottering about in the garden, so we’ve put together a great list of things you can do in your garden that are low maintenance but beautiful!
Create an outdoor living space
A gorgeous outdoor living area can be created by putting in a seated area built on a slabbed surface. The paving slabs will prevent weeds coming through (while still looking amazing!) Decorate your seating area with luxurious cushions, bean bags and lights to make it really homely.
Scale back your grass
If your garden has a large patch of grass this makes for a lot of maintenance. Grass requires mowing, watering and weeding regularly. To reduce this maintenance, reduce the amount of grass in your garden by making a patioed area, or replacing your grass with artificial grass!
Manage your planting areas
Flowers and plants look beautiful but can become a lot of work. Try to manage this by allocating planting areas where they can be managed in boxes or pots reducing the amount of pruning and maintenance you need to do.
Pick low maintenance plants
When considering which plants to go for, choose ones which require little upkeep. Evergreens are always a good choice as they are hardy and can thrive with little interference.
Perennials for colour
Introduce colour into your garden without worrying about seasonal flowers by planting perennials such as lavender. These types of plant are hardy and touch and require little to no maintenance from you!
Create a wild area
If you can’t think of your garden without plants and flowers, create a wild area where you can scatter a wild flower mix and let it grow naturally! Make sure you fence it off to stop it growing out into the rest of your garden
Water features
After the initial work to install a water feature, it is pretty self-regulating which means you can simply enjoy it from then on.
Spread some mulch
Nobody wants to weed, it is one of the most time intensive tasks in a garden. Take preventative measures by spreading a layer of mulch on any flower beds you have to stop weeds from sprouting up! Along with stopping weeds, it also nourishes the beds!
Organise your tools
A low maintenance garden needs to be tidy and in order. Consider getting a little potting or tool shed to keep things organised. Put your wellies, lawnmower and other gardening tools in there so you always know where they are, and they aren’t in your way!
Make a space for you
Now that you have your beautiful low maintenance garden, make a space for yourself to relax. Try hanging a hammock somewhere and grab yourself a drink to enjoy the space!
